“Charizard, the Flame Pokémon. Charizard is a Flying and Fire type. When competing in intense battles, Charizard's flame becomes more intense as well.”
Romaji: Lizardon) is a species of Pokémon in the series of the same name. It is a dual-type Fire/Flying Pokémon that made its first appearance in the first generation games Red and Blue. It is the final evolution of Charmander. Charizard can Mega Evolve into either Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y with Charizardite X and Charizardite Y respectively. The former changes its Flying type for Dragon while the Y form remains the same typing. It has a Gigantamax form. Charizard appears in all Super Smash Bros. games. It was a Poké Ball Pokémon in the first two games and playable since Super Smash Bros. Brawl (along with the Pokémon Trainer in Brawl and Ulitmate, and a solo character in 3DS/Wii U).
Charizard is a large, draconic Pokémon that differs greatly from its pre-evolved forms. The red skin coloration of Charmeleon is no longer apparent, as Charizard appears to have reverted to the orange/yellow coloration of Charmander. Two large fangs can be seen when its mouth is closed. When its mouth is open, its lower fangs and a slender but long tongue can be seen. The single horn that was on the back of its head is now two, one on either side. The most notable difference between Charizard and its pre-evolved forms are the large wings that have developed on its back, which gives Charizard the capability of flying.
Mega Charizard
Charizard's Mega Evolution form using Charizardite X is different from Charizard, as it now has a black body color and blue flames from its mouth and on its tail. While using Charizardite Y, Mega Charizard has a big horn on the top of its head and larger wings.
Gigantamax Charizard
As Gigantamax Charizard, it becomes larger and physically fit. The lower part of its body glows white with several yellow diamonds located on lower belly. There are also diamonds spots located on the front legs. The claws located on hand and feet become longer and sharp. The feet become longer and digitigrade, retaining small glowing soles under the forefeet. The wings are transformed into literal flame wings extending to the shoulder blade and two flames located on the horns. The sclera of the eyes becomes yellow, the glow of a flame can be seen in the mouth and the teeth grow, with the lower front teeth and three teeth in the middle now protruding when the mouth is closed. The flame on the tail extends out and has three red clouds surrounding it. Gigantamax Charizard's flames increase whenever it roars. The wings are capable of being hotter than magma which Charizard uses to burn its opponents.
Charizard has been featured in every Smash Bros. video game to date. In Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee, Charizard appears as a Pokémon that can be randomly summoned from a Poké Ball. When Charizard appears, it attacks the enemies of the player/team that summoned it with a scorching Flamethrower while turning its head from left to right. The attack deals 6% damage per flame in both games.
In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Wii U, Charizard has a newly designed moveset, now separate from the Pokémon Trainer and capable of Mega Evolution to Mega Charizard X for its Final Smash. Mega Charizard X has two attacks: the standard attack button executes Dragon Rush, corkscrewing in the direction the Circle Pad or Control Stick is tilted, and the special attack launches Fire Blast at opponents, trapping them in a multi-hitting flame.
Charizard returned in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, rejoining the Pokémon Trainer's team while its Mega Evolved X form was removed. However, its Mega X form still appears as a Spirit.

Many Charizard have appeared in Pokémon the Series, but the most prominently featured one has been Ash Ketchum's Charizard. This Charizard is well-known for its character arc: having been abandoned by its original trainer Damian as a Charmander, it was adopted by Ash in Charmander – The Stray Pokémon. While Charmander started as a loyal and shy companion, as it evolved into Charmeleon and eventually Charizard in Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon after saving Ash from the claws of an Aerodactyl. It developed a rebellious and disobedient streak as a Charmeleon, and only truly bonded with Ash and regained its loyalty when Ash saved its life when it was left out in the cold in Charizard Chills. Following this, Ash's Charizard would continue being a sporadic but loyal and powerful member of his team.
Other notable Pokémon trainers owned a Charizard in the anime are Trevor, Leon, Alain, Kiawe and Friede. Leon's Charizard also appeared in Pokémon: Twilight Wings and Pokémon Evolutions. Calem's Charizard appeared alongside his Chesnaught in Pokémon Generations. Trevor and Alain's Charizard is capable of Mega Evolution, while Leon's Charizard is capable of Gigantamax. Friede's Charizard is capable of Terastal Phenomenon, turning into a Dark-type and can also Mega Evolve into Mega Charizard Y. Kiawe's Charizard was given to him by his grandfather. He often uses it as his personal Ride Pokémon.
Charizard appeared in the music video for Celestial, carrying Ed Sheeran back home. It is later seen in an animated sequence with Ed Sheeran and his other Pokémon, helping him stop the fight between Mewtwo and Mew.
